There is a need for a wearable, data-logging carbon monoxide detection system by public health and air quality researchers to monitor personal air pollutant exposure in regions without established air quality measurement systems in order to better inform policy decisions to minimize risk of anemia, respiratory issues, and other health problems.
Every year, indoor and outdoor air pollution leads to around 6.1 million premature deaths worldwide
98% of city-dwellers in low to middle income countries are exposed to air pollution exceeding World Health Organization guidelines
About 70% of Haiti’s energy usage comes from burning wood and wood-based charcoal fires
